We just got back from Designer Werktag in Munich. We designed an interior installation for this year’s Designer Werktag produced by Glas Trösch. It was a lot of fun and great to finally meet everyone from Glas Trösch. Thanks to Christian and his team for making sure that the installation came together. The event took place over a couple of days in Munich’s Fruchthof. Each day there were a number of great speaker’s:
Kathrin Susanna Gimmel of jaja architects, Jennifer Chen of Heatherwick Studio, Aurel Aebi of Atelier Oi, Michael Becker of becker architekten, and Michael Szivos of SOFTlab.

SOFTlab was asked by glass Trösch to design a showroom in Munich for designerwerktag 2012. Mike is traveling to Germany for the oprning and to speak about our work at the event along with Atelier Oi, Heatherwick Studio, jaja architects, and Becker Architects.
SOFTlab has been selected for this year’s Architectural League Prize. We have been inspired by the winners of this award for years. We are very excited to be selected and honored to be listed with the other winners:
Jorge Arvizu, Ignacio del Rio, Emmanuel Ramirez, and Diego Ricalde, MMX Studio, Mexico City
Jimenez Lai, Bureau Spectacular, Chicago
Sean Lally, WEATHERS / Sean Lally, Chicago
Seung Teak Lee and Mi Jung Lim, STPMJ, Brooklyn
Koji Tsutsui, Koji Tsutsui & Associates, San Francisco and Tokyo
There will also be an exhibition from June 21st- August 3 2012 of everyone’s work.
You can check out more info at the Architectural League.
SOFTlab will be involved in a series of roundtable discussions among emerging practices from Helsinki and New York. The discussions will focus on the origins of each practice in the two cities. Having watched many of our friends start practices over the years and sorting out our own practice we know that the creation of a studio is often unpredictable, full of temptations, and always interesting. We are very excited to hear and discuss everyone’s experiences.
If you are in NYC this Saturday it will be worth checking out. After the discussions there will be an opening reception for the Newly Drawn exhibition with a performance by one of the moderators from Helsinki, Tuomas Toivonen. All I know is that its called “Urbanism in the House” and what google tells me. If it is half of that it will be amazing!:
AIA CES: 3 LUs
When: 1:00 PM – 7:00 PM SATURDAY, APRIL 21
Where: At The Center
Discussions between NEWLY DRAWN emerging Finnish firms and New York based winning firms of the AIANY’s New Practices and the Architectural League’s Emerging Voices.
The roundtable sessions will focus on sharing and comparing experiences of setting up architectural practices in Helsinki and New York. Short presentations on the history and origins of each practice and their work will provide 15 different perspectives on establishing and running an office. The participants will also discuss their architectural motives, influences, techniques and agendas in a “pecha kucha” format.
We just completed the exhibition of student work at pratt. The students worked really hard this year and it turned out great. If you are around Pratt it is definitely worth checking out!

Our good friend Mathew Waldman just launched a kickstarter project to help build a fairy army! It was a lot of fun (as always) helping them out with the video and working with the guys at NOOKA. The project has great intentions and will help raise awareness about the fact that attrocities are unbiased and affect everyone. We are happy to be a part of the project and you can to over at the kickstarter page!
